What is Cymbaltaź (duloxetine)? Cymbaltaź is a prescription drug in one of the newest classes of anti-depressants, called SRNIs. How does Cymbaltaź work? Duloxetine is a balanced dual reuptake inhibitor of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine (SNRI). What are the effects of Cymbaltaź tablets? The most commonly observed adverse events (greater than/= to 5% and at least twice placebo) for Cymbalta vs. placebo (n = 1,139 vs. 777) were: nausea (20% vs. 7%), dry mouth (15% vs. 6%), constipation (11% vs. 4%), decreased appetite (8% vs. 2%), fatigue (8% vs. 4%), somnolence (7% vs. 3%) and increased sweating (6% vs. 2%). The overall discontinuation rate due to adverse events for Cymbalta vs. placebo was 10% vs. 4%. Nausea was the only common adverse event reported as a reason for discontinuation and considered to be drug related (1.4% vs. 0.1 %). How long does it take Cymbaltaź to work? Depressed patients taking Cymbalta(TM) 60mg once a day had significantly greater improvement in mood and anxiety measures than did placebo treated patients by the end of the first week of therapy. This same data indicated that the improvements seen by week one were also sustained throughout the studies. Other findings presented from an open label trial showed that 79 percent of patients achieved response and 69 percent of patients achieved remission of their symptoms after a year of therapy with either 80 mg/day or 120 mg/day of Cymbalta. Additionally, data from the one-year trial indicated Cymbalta to be relatively well tolerated and safe over long-term treatment. Always take Cymbaltaź as directed by your healthcare professional. Can I split the tablet? No, the tablet should not be split. It is not designed to be split and cannot be divided evenly to make two doses of equal strength. Your doctor should be able to prescribe tablets in a dose that will make splitting tablets unnecessary.
