Main Uses: DEPRESSION: Major depressive disorders, such as single episodes and recurrent depression with associated anxiety, especially where sedation is not required. Treatment at generally lower dosages may be continued for up to 1 year to prevent relapse and recurrence of further depressive episodes. PANIC DISORDERS: Paroxetine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of Panic Disorders with or without agrophobia. The combination of paroxetine and cognitive-behavioural therapy has been shown to be significantly more effective than cognitive- behavioural therapy alone in the treatment of panic disorders. In a placebo controlled trial, the efficacy of paroxetine in the treatment of panic disorder has been maintained for up to one year. OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDERS: For the short term treatment of severe disabling Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, where the obsession or compulsion cause marked distress, are time consuming or significantly interfere with social or occupational functioning. |
