Hence acts as a detoxifying agent. Taurine is an organic acid which acts as a lipid membrane stabilizer in the body and aids various antioxidant defence systems. These antioxidants scavenge free radicals from the body cells and prevent or reduce the damage caused by oxidation especially in kidney.
