Coenzyme Q10 is a compound present naturally in the body. This compound is important to be present in the body to improve cellular functioning since its main function is to produce energy, as it has antioxidant properties. Research related to Coenzyme Q10 also shows an effect against conditions like migraines and diabetes, even to Alzheimer’s disease, and also against aging.

Most people use dietary supplements as the amount of Coenzyme Q10 level decreases with time in order to make up for lost levels.

Dosage of Coq 10

The mentioned factors will cause a variation in recommended doses of CoQ10:

·   A person’s health

·   A person’s age

·   The condition for which the treatment is received

The appropriate standard doses recommended for CoQ10 vary from 10 milligrams (mg) to 500 mg. The highest dose that can be used is 1,200 mg. But doses used in clinical trials can go as high as 3,000 mg every day.

Various dosages can be recommended for different types of CoQ10 supplements. Ubiquinone, an inactive form of CoQ10, is usually found in many supplements, which is more difficult to absorb than ubiquinol.

Health Benefits of Coq10 and uses

Some of the beneficial Coq 10 uses are;

1. Heart Health

Coenzyme Q10 is known to show a positive impact on patients with various cardiac diseases like heart failure, atherosclerosis, and coronary artery disease. Coenzyme Q10 works well for cardiac cells that have high requirements regarding energy levels and cannot bear coenzyme Q10 deficiency at all.

2. Treating muscle pain from use of statin

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) encompasses all of the issues related to the heart or blood vessels. Medication for CVD prescribed by the doctors is usually statins. These drugs work by lowering cholesterol levels of the body that help in fighting the disease. Even though statins decrease cholesterol levels, they also decrease CoQ10 levels too. However, decreased levels of CoQ10 can cause mitochondrial dysfunction that also causes muscle pain or myopathy.

3. Treating migraines

Inflammation in neurons and cells leads to chronic migraines in the area of the brain known as the trigeminovascular system. Low amounts of inflammatory biomarkers were observed in women who consumed CoQ10 supplements. Inflammatory biomarkers are components that help to locate the origin of inflammation present anywhere in the body.

4. Age-related diseases

With increasing age, the reserves of CoQ10 levels decrease, resulting in decreased mitochondrial function. Some studies suggest that mitochondrial dysfunction can also lead to age-based neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. The diseases are also related to free radical damage.

5. Coq 10 enzyme for Diabetes

Coenzyme Q10 also proved to be beneficial for diabetic neuropathy and in insulin-sensitive people having diabetes. A substantial decrease in oxidative stress markers, blood sugar, and insulin resistance was seen in patients taking CoQ10 as compared to the control group.

Conclusion

CoQ10 is an antioxidant found in every other cell of the human body. Many medical conditions arise due to deficiency of CoQ10, like cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Even though some amount of CoQ10 is produced by the body, people still also use supplements in order to cover deficiencies. Fewer side effects occur by taking CoQ10 supplements, which are thought to be safe.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is not responsible for monitoring supplements for their purity and authenticity, so it is better to buy those products that have been verified before or tested.
